This is why I love Dave Winer's perspective on the openness of the web. You should too:
The web is not safe. That is correct. We don't want every place to be safe. So people can be wild and experiment and try out new ideas. It's why the web has been the proving ground for so much incredible stuff over its history.
Lots of things aren't safe. Crossing the street. Bike riding in Manhattan. Falling in love. We do them anyway. You can't be safe all the time. Life itself isn't safe.
If Google succeeds in making the web controlled and bland, we'll just have to reinvent the web outside of Google's sphere. Let's save some time, and create the new web out of the web itself.
I may permanently go back to my flip phone if all my apps break when this happens...
Starting in 2027, a silent update, nonconsensually pushed by Google, will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google, signed their contract, paid up, and handed over government ID. Every app and every device, worldwide, with no opt-out.
Starting this week, Disney+ updated its Subscriber Agreement to allow promotional content, sponsorships and advertisements across every single service plan, including the premium tier that was previously sold, explicitly and repeatedly, as a fully commercial-free experience.
I'd rather watch films on DVD than deal with crap like this. At least you could skip the ads.
