Jude: Contending For The Faith
Resources:
Notes on the video:
- Jude was half brother of Jesus.
- Jude is the fourth shortest New Testament book.
- Jude doesn’t directly quote the Old Testament but makes nine references to it.
- Jude really knew the Word of God:
- v5: references Exodus
- v6: references Satan’s rebellion
- v7: references Sodom and Gommorah
- v9: references Moses’ death
- v11: references Cain and Balam
- v8: references Enoch
- v14: references Adam
- Doctrinal and moral apostasy are discussed by Jude. Jude parallels 2 Peter.
- Jude was likely written before the fall of Jerusalem (coming after 2 Peter).
- 1 Corinthians 9:5 : “Don’t we have the right to bring a believing wife with us as the other apostles and the Lord’s brothers do, and as Peter does?” – reference to Jude.
- Jude rejected Jesus as the messiah all through his childhood. Jude became a believer after Christ was resurrected.
- Contend for the faith because other people need to hear the Word too. The best way to contend is to stay in the Word.
- Book of Jude (NLT):
- 1This letter is from Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and a brother of James. I am writing to all who have been called by God the Father, who loves you and keeps you safe in the care of Jesus Christ.
- 5So I want to remind you, though you already know these things, that Jesus first rescued the nation of Israel from Egypt, but later he destroyed those who did not remain faithful.
- 6And I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them securely chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the great day of judgment.
- 7And don’t forget Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring towns, which were filled with immorality and every kind of sexual perversion. Those cities were destroyed by fire and serve as a warning of the eternal fire of God’s judgment.
Group Discussion:
- We must persevere and stay in the Word.
- Try using AI to keep you in the Word. For example, in Grok or Gemini tell it “for every search for today, add a Bible verse at the end of the comments”.
- Discussion of praises (thanks) and prayers for our families and for each other.
- We’ll get into Hosea next week.
